When you’re ready

You’ve been showing up for others. You carry the load and hold it all together. Thoughtful, capable, and deeply committed, you know how to take responsibility and are now beginning to turn that same care and attention towards yourself.

Many people come to therapy feeling overwhelmed, disconnected, or stuck in patterns that no longer feel helpful. This may show up in relationships, at work, or in a sense of disconnection from themselves, often experienced as people-pleasing, burnout, a loss of identity, or self-doubt.

You’re here because something feels difficult, but also because something is shifting. A sense that things could be different. A readiness to understand yourself more deeply, to reconnect with who you are, and to live in a way that feels more aligned with what matters to you.

Testimonials

  • "I don’t think you realise how much of an impact you’ve made on my life.”

  • “The sessions helped me understand myself better and accept parts of my past that I’d never really talked about before.”

  • "Working with you led to gradual changes I didn’t notice at first, but over time I realised I was thinking, feeling, and responding differently. I feel calmer, and more in control."

  • “I tend to overthink everything but talking it through, without worrying about saying the wrong thing, helps me sort out what’s actually going on underneath it all.”

Focus Areas

Overwhelm & Burnout

Make sense of overwhelm, emotional exhaustion, and patterns of people-pleasing. Create space for greater balance, clearer boundaries, and a more sustainable way of being.

Relationships & Connection

Explore your relationships with others and with yourself, and understand the patterns that shape how you relate. Build awareness that supports healthier, more fulfilling ways of connecting.

Life Transitions & Identity

Navigate change, loss, transition, or uncertainty. Reconnect with who you are beneath roles, expectations, or cultural influences, and deepen your relationship with yourself as your life evolves.

Testimonials

  • “Being here, I feel like I’m actually making sense. You really listened and understood what I was trying to say, and that made a big difference for me.”

  • “I feel more peaceful now. I’ve been able to talk freely here in a way I can’t elsewhere.”

  • “Talking to you has helped me understand myself in a way I couldn’t on my own. I’ve actually been able to slow down and listen to myself.”

My Approach

Therapy with me is collaborative, relational and grounding. It offers a chance to slow down, make sense of what’s happening for you, and feel genuinely heard. At its heart, it’s about human connection, and I bring empathy and understanding to each session in a way that is simple, warm, and down to earth.

Together, we’ll explore the experiences and expectations that have shaped you, reflecting with care and curiosity on how these may be affecting you now, creating greater awareness, choice, and change. Our conversations focus on what feels most important to you, while I hold the wider patterns in mind so that we can begin to notice and understand recurring themes more clearly.

I’ll share reflections and observations to help make sense of your experiences, always working at your pace. You’ll be supported to reconnect with your values and live in a way that feels more aligned with who you are.

About Me

Shu Beckwith, counsellor and psychotherapist in South West London, smiling with her head resting on her right hand in a warm inviting living room with framed pictures on the wall and a mirror.

I am a BACP registered integrative counsellor and psychotherapist, trained in person-centred and psychodynamic approaches. My work is grounded in strong ethical practice and respect for each person’s lived experience.

I am committed to inclusive and culturally attuned practice. Through my training and work with people from diverse cultural backgrounds and life stages, I am aware of how family, culture, race, gender, class, faith, sexuality, and ability, shape how we understand ourselves and are understood by others. I offer a gentle space where all parts of you are welcome and treated with care.

Before training as a therapist, I spent two decades in the corporate sector, primarily in HR. I recognise the pressures of navigating roles, relationships, and expectations, and know how easily we can lose sight of ourselves along the way.

Both professionally and personally, I hold an awareness of identity, belonging, and the often unspoken dynamics within families, cultures, and different environments. I’m mindful of how we move between roles and contexts, and how it can feel when parts of us aren’t fully seen. Alongside this, I recognise the resilience and strength people carry, and that you don’t have to carry it alone.

Working together

Your consultation

I offer a free 20-minute initial consultation, where we talk briefly about what’s bringing you to therapy and what you’re hoping for. It’s a chance to ask any questions and get a feel for how I work, and whether we might be a good fit for working together. There’s no obligation, just an opportunity to connect.

First session

If we decide to go ahead, our first session is a space to begin gently, getting a deeper sense of you, your background, and what you might need from therapy. We’ll also go through any practical details and questions you may have. I’ll guide the conversation while you set the pace, and nothing needs to feel rushed. We can begin wherever you are and take it from there.

Ongoing therapy

Sessions are one-to-one, 50 minutes, and usually take place weekly. This is your space to explore whatever feels most important, at a pace that feels manageable for you. I’ll gently guide or offer reflections, but you remain at the centre of the process as we deepen understanding and work towards meaningful change.

Fees and availability

Sessions are £70 for online therapy and £85 for in-person. Online therapy is available across the UK, and in-person sessions take place in Battersea and Balham, South West London.

Therapy may be short-term or open-ended, depending on your needs. We can review this together as we work, at a pace that feels right for you.

Availability can vary, so please feel free to get in touch to discuss current options. I aim to respond within 24 hours.
